Residential Tenancy Act – Major Items To Refresh

DURING A TENANCY

– Renters must be given a ‘fee free’ way to pay their rent, including by EFT or, for renters
receiving Centrelink payments, via Centrepay

– Renters can make some modifications to their homes with or without consent

– Broken air conditioners and mould and damp issues are treated as urgent repairs

– Entry periods have changed and range from 24 hours to 7 days notice

– Agents or rental providers must pay renters compensation for sales inspections and a
notice of intention to sell form must be issued to the renter at least 14 days before
inspections are set to commence

– The RRP must ensure gas and electrical safety checks are completed every 2 years, Smoke alarm maintenance annually.
